Sports & Remedial Massage
Remedial Massage is a holistic treatment; that is to say it treats the whole body, identifying and treating the cause of the issue and not just the symptoms.
Remedial massage therapy is a deep tissue massage that creates the conditions for the body's return to normal health after an injury or with muscular-skeletal disorders. It is used to treat muscular-skeletal imbalances, strains, sprains, scar tissue. Because it works deeper than regular relaxing massage, its effects are usually deeper and longer lasting. Remedial massage can be used for conditions created by lifestyle, for example repetitive strain injury and back pain. It is used to prevent and to help heal an injury.
The Benefits of Remedial Massage
- to increase the blood flow and improve circulation, particularly in injured areas.
- to increase the lymphatic flow both to and from the area being treated, reducing pain, swelling and inflammation and speeding up the body's healing process.
- to relieve stress and tension
- to increase muscle tone
- to break down scar tissue
After a consultation and assessment Sarah will identify the reason for the discomfort, for example running places a lot of demand on the muscles and connective tissue and both of these will need to be loosened. Different techniques will be used to relax tight areas, also known as trigger points and then calm the area down again. However, you don't have to do sport to have a sports massage! Many of us spend long periods of time sitting bent over a tablet or computer and build up tension in our neck and shoulders. Massage is excellent for easing the tension that builds up from being in the same position each day and can help relieve headaches, chronic pain and many other symptoms. The idea is not to cause pain, but to work with each individual client to get the best result for them.
