Chiropractic FAQs

We're here to help.

We have made a list of common questions we get asked about Chiropractic treatment. If you have a question that we haven't answered here, give us a call on 01534 876510.

Is Chiropractic treatment safe?

Yes! Chiropractic treatment is extremely safe.  Charles Robottom has been a practising chiropractor for over 35 years. He will take as much time as needed during your first appointment to understand your medical history and ensure any treatment is safe for you.

Bad side affects of Chiropractic treatment are extremely rare.

Some people experience mild soreness or discomfort, which is a normal sign the treatment is working and usually goes away within 24–48 hours.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of appointments you may need will depend on the injury or condition you have. Some people with minor sports injuries may only need a couple of visits, others with chronic conditions may need more.

Charles Robottom will discuss how many appointments you may need during your first consultation and track your progress. If you or he think adjustments are needed, you'll talk it through together.

What should I wear to an appointment?

Wear whatever you're comfortable in. It’s best to choose something you can move easily in. If Charles needs better access to the area being treated, he may ask you to remove an item of clothing, but towels or gowns will be provided if needed

Do I have to be clicked?

Absolutely not. The 'clicking' that is often used as a part of Chiropractic treatment is called an adjustment or manipulation and is a type of joint mobilisation. Chiropractors will normally consider this treatment technique if they find a joint which is not moving optimally.

Lots of people cannot be 'clicked' due to medical conditions they may have and others prefer not to be due to personal preference. Charles is happy to offer other forms of treatment which can achieve similar results.

Can I exercise before/after a treatment?

It depends. Please adapt your exercise if you have been advised to avoid specific movements to let an injury heal.

Too much exercise too soon after injury can prolong your recovery time. Charles will guide you through a progressive return to activity.

Charles may also prescribe you exercises to at home to speed up your recovery.

Can I bring a friend to my appointment?

Absolutely. You're welcome to bring along a friend or family member to your appointment if that would help you to feel more relaxed.

If you would like a chaperone, one of our receptionists would be happy to accompany you. Please just ask on the day of your appointment.

Do you have free on-site parking?

Yes. We have free on-site parking for patients at Orchard Corner, La Route du Fort, St Helier (JE2 4PA)

Do you serve patients from outside St Helier?
